Twenty Plus Ten – Nigel Hobson

Leadership Experience:

Nigel’s most recent full-time role was transforming and running supply, trading and logistics operations globally for a major multi-national company. He has previously held multiple senior supply chain and logistics roles where he developed his expertise in effectively balancing both operational delivery and commercial growth. Nigel’s breadth of leadership experience across complex end-to-end supply chains, from manufacturing through to customer experience, has enabled a track record of delivery through culture change. So, he’s “been there” at the sharp end of business management and operated across all parts of the value chain.

Board Experience:

Nigel has held both Executive and Non-Executive Directorships in the UK and Turkey where he held significant accountability for financial, environmental and social governance in a highly complex and heavily regulated energy industry at a time of major change. He also led the step change improvement in corporate governance as the shareholder representative for over 40 Joint Venture companies globally. So, he’s “been there” in the Board room in both Executive and Non-Executive roles.

Personal USP:

A cornerstone of Nigel’s career is transformation to deliver operational excellence. Factors in that success have included:

i) collaborative leadership effectively balancing investment for growth with disciplined efficiency and productivity improvement,
ii) effective deployment of safety, environmental and financial risk controls across complex supply chains in a heavily regulated business environment.
iii) translation of strategy to front line staff and structuring the subsequent delivery framework to drive effective implementation.

But his hallmark has been simplifying internal and external interfaces to enable better deployment of performance measures that drive integrated value. He understands that any business is about its people and that you need to listen carefully and absorb others’ perspectives to succeed, particularly when it comes to change management.

Motivation:

He’s held over 20 years of Leadership roles plus over 10 years of Board positions. Nigel is now focused on putting something back through his advisory work. He has been a Senior Advisor to KPMG on energy value chains and is a Steering Committee member of the Oxford University Business Economics Programme. Through his Twenty Plus Ten Board Advisory work, he believes his experience can particularly serve public and private companies exposed to domestic and international challenges and significant operational risks.
